Master Your Oral Skills with LRDG’s End of Module Exams (EOMs)
At LRDG, End of Module Exams (EOMs) are essential oral language evaluations that take place after completing a module. These exams ensure that learners have fully grasped the concepts before moving forward, helping them develop confidence and fluency in speaking.
Unlike regular tutoring sessions, an EOM is conducted with a dedicated LRDG evaluator rather than your tutor. This provides an objective assessment of your oral proficiency and helps prepare you for the structure of the Second Language Evaluation (SLE) oral exam—a key requirement for many federal government positions.

Why Are EOMs Important?
EOMs are more than just a test—they’re an essential part of your language learning journey. Here’s why:
-
Assess your oral proficiency
EOMs evaluate your speaking ability, helping you solidify everything you’ve learned in a module.
-
Build confidence
By simulating the experience of the SLE test, EOMs help you reduce anxiety and improve your fluency.
-
Receive personalized feedback
Each learner receives a detailed evaluation report from their official LRDG evaluator, highlighting strengths and areas for improvement.
-
Advance at the right pace
Learners can only progress to the next module after successfully passing the EOM, ensuring they have fully acquired the necessary skills.

How Do LRDG’s EOMs Work?
The structure of your EOM will depend on whether you’re training individually or in a group.
- Individual EOMs: A 30–60-minute one-on-one session with an evaluator.
- Group EOMs: A 90-minute session where all learners in a group take part together.
- Format: Exams are conducted online via Microsoft Teams. (Individual learners can also choose to complete their exam over the phone.)
- Exam Content: Direct and open-ended questions along with role-playing exercises based on the module’s content.
Once you have completed the module’s learning materials, you can schedule your EOM at your convenience—either by booking it yourself or having LRDG arrange it for you.
What Happens If You Don’t Pass?
To pass an EOM, you need to achieve a 90% score. If you score below that, you will need to retake the exam—but don’t worry, you won’t have to redo the entire module!
Instead, you’ll work on specific areas where improvement is needed, guided by your tutor. After a few additional practice sessions, you’ll have another opportunity to take the EOM and move forward in your training.
Your Personalized EOM Report
Every learner receives a detailed evaluation report from their EOM evaluator. This document highlights:
- Your strengths and fluency in oral communication
- Areas that need improvement
- Specific exercises your tutor can assign to help you improve
This report is a valuable tool to personalize your learning experience and ensure that you’re making continuous progress.
